Handling mod conflicts: file claims, conflict prompts and load order

A conflict means two mods write the same file. The client either blocks it or warns you — what each prompt means and how to resolve it.

A conflict means two mods write the same file — for example two character packs that ship the same weapon replacement. The second install will collide.

How the client warns you

  • Install failed: this file is already claimed by another enabled mod → disable the other mod in Mod Management and retry
  • Conflict prompt (block) → only one of the two may be enabled
  • Conflict prompt (info) → informational only (shared attachment files); both can stay on, the later write wins

Order of operations

  1. Read whether the prompt says claimed or conflict
  2. Claimed → disable the other mod → install again
  3. Block conflict → decide which one you want, disable the other
  4. Check both mods' state in Mod Management afterwards

Three rules of thumb

  • Keep a single replacement mod per category (characters, vehicles, graphics)
  • Add-on mods (dlc, AddonPeds, scripts) generally coexist; collisions come from shared assets
  • Never force a conflicting install — one of the two will break in game
