1. Two game editions
GTA V comes in two editions, Legacy and Enhanced. They use different file structures and Mod formats, and Mods are not interchangeable between them.
The client detects each edition's game folder separately, and a Mod can only be installed into the edition it supports. Check the selected edition before you install.
2. Finding the game folder
- The client scans common installation locations and registered launcher information.
- If it cannot find the game, set the game folder manually in Settings.
- For a freshly installed edition, launch the game once so it creates the configuration files and save folder it needs.
3. The game environment
The game environment is the prerequisite for Mods. It contains the overlay and the base components. When it is installed, the client copies the original overlay file into a modifiable copy and then writes the necessary content.
- Install order: install the environment first, then other Mods.
- Uninstall order: uninstall the Mods that depend on the environment first, then the environment itself.
- If the environment is still used by other Mods, the client keeps the shared files and explains why.
4. Saves and user folders
Mods that touch saves or character frameworks write into the documents folder (the edition-specific folder under Documents\Rockstar Games). Before overwriting an existing save the client keeps a backup, and restores it from the record on uninstall.
