Legacy vs Enhanced: differences and mod compatibility

The two editions are separate environments — mods, libraries and saves do not carry over. How to pick the right one.

User guideLegacy and EnhancedLast updated October 10, 2026

Short answer: Legacy and Enhanced are two separate environments. Mods are not interchangeable and saves do not carry over.

Main differences

  • Engine and assets: Enhanced is the newer build (gen9) with better lighting, weather and loading
  • Mod ecosystem: Legacy has years of backlog; Enhanced is younger but growing
  • Compatibility: the same mod needs a separate adaptation per edition — they are two market entries
  • Saves: not readable across editions

How to choose

  • Want old mod packs, or have a modest PC → Legacy
  • Want the new engine and visuals, and can live with a newer mod library → Enhanced

Switching in the client

Use the game edition switcher on the left. The client keeps separate installed lists per edition; just never drag a Legacy package into the Enhanced folder manually.
